ANGKOR WAT

The Soul of the Kingdom

Angkor Wat is a temple complex in Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world. Originally constructed as a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire, it was gradually transformed into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century.

It was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yaśodharapura, the capital of the Khmer Empire, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum.

Once a charming French-Khmer city with wide boulevards and colonial buildings, it has largely recovered from the Khmer Rouge period. Today, it is a bustling capital with a mix of old and new, where traditional markets coexist with modern cafes.

Phnom Penh is located in the south-central region of Cambodia, at the confluence of the Tonlé Sap, Mekong, and Bassac rivers.
